Annette Schavan

It has been reported that a minister from Germany, Annette Schavan, has been accused of plagiarizing her doctoral thesis more than 30 years ago. What makes these accusations even more damaging is the fact that this minister oversees Germany’s Universities.

The Minister has been asked to resign after the report was leaked online that she had plagiarized her thesis. They might even take her PhD from her but they haven’t come to any decisions as of yet. The 57 year old minister says she didn’t mean to do it and is going to fight the accusations to keep her PhD.

What has the literary world come to when a minister has been accused of plagiarism? When will it ever stop? Why can’t people just write in their own words? You know it is really bad when a minister gets accused of such a thing.

This is the second plagiarism scandal since 2011 in Germany. Another minister resigned after people found out he copied and pasted some of his thesis from the Internet. Back when it happened to the first one, Minister Schavan was one of the first to call him shameful.
